For Sonny, Sarah and Jason

Sonny, you're going
 to
 the USA!

Rockets first. Then Disneyland. All three of you, together, and every bit of it is on us.

This is our gift to your family.

A message from Tiny Hearts

Dear Sarah and Jason,

We've been thinking about Sonny and the way his little face lights up when he looks at the moon. Like so many people who have followed your story, we've fallen in love with your beautiful boy, and we've wanted to do something special for the three of you.

As Tiny Hearts reaches one million followers, we've been thinking about what this milestone means to us and how we want to celebrate it. We've always cared about what we can do with our reach, and the difference we can make in people's lives. To us, there is no more meaningful way to celebrate than to give back to a little boy and his family who deserve something beautiful to look forward to.

So we would love to send the three of you to America, with the whole trip paid for by Tiny Hearts.

We believe every little boy should get to experience the magic of Disneyland with his mum and dad beside him. And for your little space-loving Sonny, we couldn't imagine this adventure without a visit to the Space Center in Houston to see the rockets, too.

More than anything, we want to give you this time with him. To hold his little hands as he takes it all in, hear his laughter and watch his face when something he's only ever seen in pictures is suddenly right there in front of him. We know that on this trip, you will create the most beautiful lifelong memories with your little boy, and we feel so grateful that we can help make that happen.

There is so much we wish we could change for your family. This is something we can do, and it comes with all our love, from the people behind Tiny Hearts to the three of you.

We'll cover the flights, accommodation, the Space Center and Disneyland, and take care of all the arrangements. The dates we've included are only a starting point, and we'll work with you around Sonny's appointments, how he's feeling and whatever your family needs. You already have so much to think about, and we want you to be able to look forward to this without worrying about how to make it happen.

We hope Sonny has the most wonderful adventure, with his two favourite people beside him, and that you come home with a camera full of photos and beautiful memories you'll treasure forever.

With love,
Nik and Rach
and their whole team at Tiny Hearts

Two big stops

Real rockets, then real magic.

Stop one

NASA, Houston

Three space suits are waiting, one for Sonny, one for Mum and one for Dad. Rockets the size of buildings hang above his head, there is a real mission control to walk through, and there are buttons everywhere made for small hands. He can press every single one of them.

Stop two

Disneyland, California

Teacups that spin, mouse ears that stay on all day, and the rocket ride as many times as he likes. On the last night, gold fireworks go up over the castle with Sonny watching from someone's shoulders.

The plan

Brisbane → Los Angeles → Houston → Los Angeles → home

About a week away, with flights and dates to be confirmed with your family.

  1. Leg one · Brisbane → Los Angeles

    Up, up and away

A window seat, a squishy rocket toy and a very big sky. The first whoosh Sonny hears is the plane taking his whole family across the ocean.

  2. Leg two · Los Angeles → Houston

    Off to see the rockets

A short hop across America to Texas, where the real rockets live. We think his nose will be against the window the entire way.

  3. Leg three · Houston · NASA

    Space Center Houston

Giant rockets overhead, mission control, buttons to press, and three little space suits with his name on one of them.

  4. Leg four · Houston → Los Angeles

    Back to California

Rockets ticked off the list, and the plane turns west again with one very big surprise still waiting.

  5. Leg five · Anaheim · Disneyland

    Mouse ears on

Spinning teacups, the rocket ride on repeat, ice cream before lunch, and gold fireworks over the castle at night.

  6. Leg six · Los Angeles → Brisbane

    Home again

Sleepy heads, mouse ears still on, and a suitcase full of the best week of their lives.

Sonny's story

Sonny is three years old. He has just had his birthday, and he loves the moon, flip books, music, dancing, orange cats, and being wherever his mum and dad are.

In May, he was diagnosed with CLN2 Batten disease, one of the rarest childhood neurological conditions in the world. It is progressive, and right now there is no cure. In a matter of months, Sarah and Jason watched their little boy stop talking, stop walking and lose the ability to do the things every little one should get to do, and they have spent every day since fighting for him, sitting on phones for hours, and learning words no parent should ever have to learn.

Over the last few weeks, this community came together for him. Toys and books, a moon rock of his very own, hoodies with his name on them ready for the trip, and box after box of his favourite things, all sent in by people who have never met him. That is what filled the parcel Sonny opened, and every bit of it came from someone who simply wanted him to have a very good day.

There is still more you can do.

Where your donation goes

The trip is already paid for. The GoFundMe is something separate, and it goes straight to Sonny.

Tiny Hearts is covering the adventure, so not one dollar of the GoFundMe is going towards it. Every donation goes directly to Sarah and Jason for Sonny's care, for the equipment, the therapies, the specialist appointments, the travel that comes with all of it, and the costs that will only keep growing as his needs change. If you want to help this family in the most practical way there is, this is it.
